Life! Program

lifeThe Life! program is a Victorian lifestyle modification program that helps you reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Run by expert health professionals, the program is delivered as a Group Course or a Telephone Health Coaching service.

Changing your lifestyle isn’t easy, especially on your own. The Life! program gives you the motivation and support needed to make and maintain positive changes to adopt healthy behaviours and a more active lifestyle. This approach has been shown to be more effective than taking medication and has a long-term positive effect on your health.

Since the program began in 2008 over 60,000 Victorians have learnt more about the steps they can take to live a healthy life. Funded by the Victorian Government and managed by Diabetes Victoria it is the biggest prevention program of its type in Australia.

Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and stroke can be prevented or delayed if you work to lower your risks. You cannot change your age, gender or ethnicity but you can change some lifestyle risks including:

  • being overweight or obese with a large waist size
  • lack of physical activity
  • having an unhealthy diet
  • smoking
  • high blood cholesterol
  • high blood pressure
  • stress

Being active, maintaining a healthy weight and eating healthy and balanced meals can are just some of the simple lifestyle changes you can make to reduce your risk.

There’s a strong link between diabetes, heart disease and stroke – people with diabetes are up to four times more likely to develop heart disease and stroke. This means that by reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes you may also significantly contribute to the prevention of heart disease and stroke.
